Plum Orchard Tennis Squash
Tennis Squash is an American variant squash racquet, but played with a ball and racquets that are closer to the equipment used for lawn tennis, and with somewhat different rules. For younger players the game offers the complexity of squash and racquetball speed. It also has exercise and recreational opportunities for older players.
Court
Squash tennis is played in various courts four walls. The front wall (against which the ball is served) has a witness (Usually dressed in tin) to couple feet below the floor, a service line of about 6 feet from the ground and out of bounds line around 16 feet from the ground. Both side walls have rows of different heights. The back wall of the line is 4.5 meters above the ground. There are two lines for Upstairs: a range of services to about 10 feet from the wall, and a short central line running at least the front wall of the service line. Unlike squash racquets court, there are no service boxes. There are four types of courts:
squash North America
A squash court in North America is 18.5 feet by 32 feet. Originally designed for the game of squash related, by early 1930 the National Squash Tennis Association (NSTA) approved play on this kind of court. The dimensions are quite similar to the tennis court squash court official. The only changes required are the addition a line of 4.5 feet rear wall (N. American squash line the back wall is 6.5 meters above the ground) and the centerline of the court on the ground. temporary lines can easily be added with the blue ribbon for painters. The problem today is that the North American version of squash is becoming less popular, new Courts are not being built, and many alumni are converted to other uses.
Tennis Squash
In 1910, the NSTA adopted a standard size of the court 17 feet by 32.5 feet. Although many of them were built in the New York area, the game was allowed after a field Squash N. U.S., they began to disappear. He did not make economic sense to maintain a specialized court where a more versatile was acceptable.
International squash
A squash court is 21 feet international by 32 feet. The additional lines should be added. The extra width of the Court makes various plans multi-walled difficult or impossible, so experienced players prefer to use a court N. U.S.. However, a court of 21 feet is often the only generally available, especially outside of North America.
Non-standard courts
Originally the game was played on a golf shoe, then the courts in five years. Before 1911 there were no standards for the size of the court, and those built specifically for tennis squash varied little from each other. They were built on private property and clubs. At least one of these courts survives today in a playable condition. The court of Plum Orchard has been completely restored in 2008 with the boxes in place and electric lights. He was added at Orchard George Lauder Carnegie "Plum" estate on Cumberland Island, Georgia, in the winter of 1903/1904, and is now owned by the National Park Service. An exhibition on the history of tennis, squash was recently installed in the hotel, which is sometimes open to the public.
Equipment
The equipment required is relatively simple and inexpensive: junior tennis racquets and balls at the tennis lawn. In past decades, changes in tennis balls have been manufactured for the game. They had a higher pressure and were slightly smaller than a tennis ball. The last special ball made was green, so it might be easier to see on the walls white. Early courts had dark wood walls, while white tennis balls could be seen. Players, either use a marker to darken a yellow ball, or use tennis balls color (like pink ball sold on a limited basis by Penn to raise funds for breast cancer research). Blue Painter's Tape can be used to add more lines on the floor and back wall of squash courts.
Way to play
Tennis Squash is played by two players. Guide shown playing with the rules has been published by the NSTA in 1968 (see external links below).
